Exploring the current state and future aims of fundraising related to cultural properties

Museums and similar organizations throughout Japan have carried out fundraising activities related to cultural properties in various forms, including through corporate partnerships and the introduction of membership systems. In the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, moves to apply crowdfunding to maintaining the operations of museums themselves, renovating their facilities, and repairing items in their collections have surged nationwide. Such efforts are expected to not only raise funds, but also gain supporters who can be considered like-minded partners to museums.

This symposium in commemoration of the third anniversary of the National Center for the Promotion of Cultural Properties (CPCP) will examine the significance of museums, which are part of the nonprofit sector, continuing and expanding their activities with outside aid. Representatives of museums engaged in diverse fundraising efforts will share the intentions and current statuses of their activities and explore their visions for the future.
