The world of the NHK Educational TV show Art Tunes! comes to Yamaguchi City! Masterpieces like Portrait of Reiko, Writing Box with the Eight-Plank Bridge, and Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji: The Great Wave Off the Coast of Kanagawa have been turned into songs by Art Tunes! This exhibition offers interactive media art involving reproductions and videos derived from the works. The theme is “becoming art,” so come along and become characters and figures in the artworks and have fun with art!

2. Create Your Own Version of the Writing Box with the Eight-Plank Bridge

Experience the production process of maki-e, a decorative lacquerware technique, on a tablet and try designing your very own maki-e and mother-of-pearl writing box!
You can even download the data for your writing box to make a paper model. Print it out at home to assemble your own exclusive writing box.

3. The Rain Loves People, But How Do You Draw It?

What kind of rain would you draw? Imagine that you’re the artist, and make it rain on the people crossing the famous Ohashi bridge over the Sumida river.

4. Spectacular Scenery from the Landscapes of the Four Seasons in 8K

Landscapes of the Four Seasons is a national treasure painted by Sesshu, a great artist with connections to Yamaguchi.
Now, you can enjoy the spectacular scenery of the scroll filled with mountains, valleys, and expanses of water as 8K video on an extra-large screen.

5. Experience the Whoosh and Crash of Hokusai!

The wave looms even taller than Mount Fuji.
Imagine that you’re in the picture, rowing out to sea, and experience the power of the wave.

6. Looking for Tasty Food in and around Kyoto

Travel to Kyoto 400 years ago as depicted in the folding screens and look for delicious food!

Scenes in and around Kyoto (Funaki Version) by Iwasa Matabei is bustling with people! Art Tunes! focuses on the epicurean scenes in the artwork. Looking closely at the folding screens with a particular theme in mind will give you a clearer picture of the energetic daily lives of people 400 years ago. Become one of the residents of Kyoto depicted in the image and walk all over the city. This interactive exhibit uses a quiz format to search for Kyoto delicacies like multitiered food boxes, steamed buns, grilled fish, and clam soup displayed on the monitor next to the folding screens.
